FAQs
Pokémon cards are wildly popular! From their release in 1996, they have captured the hearts of generations. These days, millions across the globe actively participate in the hobby by playing and/or collecting.
PTCG is suitable for children and adults alike. You can enjoy the hobby casually with family and friends or, if you’re ready to take things to the next level, battle it out for the World Champion title in official tournament play (endorsed by Nintendo). You will love the hobby if you are already a fan of the Pokémon franchise.
Pokémon is probably one of the more newbie-friendly TCGs to get into. The basic rules required to start battling can be learned within 30 minutes. But just like in any other game such as chess, learning the high-level strategies used by competitive players requires many hours of practice.
Some cards are extremely valuable, but not all Pokémon cards are worth money. You might have heard of the 1st Edition Base Set Charizard that sold for over US$400,000. Others might sell for just a few bucks. The market is highly dynamic and it’s essential for players to learn how to identify rares.
Just like rare art pieces, the value of Pokémon cards is tied to a combination of emotional value, market demand, and scarcity. Certain cards carry a lot of sentimental appeal for long-term fans of the franchise. Furthermore, the rarest cards usually have a limited number of copies printed by the Pokémon Company.
Card value depends on the rarity of the specific card, its condition, and if it’s been “graded” (condition officially scored) by third-party companies like PSA and Beckett. Current card values can be found by going to online marketplaces like eBay, PSA, and TCGPlayer.
Firstly- decide if you’d like to play, collect, or both (most people do both!). Next, you can dive into the respective Levels PTCG curriculum to kickstart your PTCG journey!
